Hey Builders, I don't know about you, but I'm a big fan of the holiday seasons! Halloween was our warm-up and Thanksgiving officially kicks it off 🙂

But I do understand that for those who are on a weight loss journey that the holiday seasons can be challenging. Trust me, I get it! But, it doesn't have to completely derail your efforts!

The key is PLANNING and staying true to the GOALS you set for yourself while not losing site on the WHY you decided to lose weight in the first place.

Thanksgiving is a time to be thankful and grateful and...to partake, not over indulge, in the delicious meal that awaits you.

Here are five tips to help you stay-on-track and enjoy your Thanksgiving Day meal:

1. EAT A HEALTHY BREAKFAST, LUNCH AND SNACK:
Never starve yourself all day in anticipation of eating a lot of calories at dinner. What you do NOT want to do is go into the Thanksgiving Day meal hungry. If it makes you feel more comfortable then cut down on the calories that you take-in at breakfast, lunch and as a snack but still have those meals. Show up to your Thanksgiving Day meal ready for a delicious dinner but not starving!
2. GET YOUR EXERCISE IN THAT WEEK: So many people think that if they workout for hours that day then they can eat anything they want for Thanksgiving. But, it does not work that way. You can't work off a bad diet. Stick to your plan and get your workout in that week. By all means, if it makes you feel more comfortable than get a little extra cardio workout in which will burn a few extra calories. Anything more than that will just cause more hunger, more stress on the body and a much higher chance of binge eating.
3. HAVE A PLAN...READ THAT AGAIN! If you are trying to lose weight, go into this dinner with a plan. Think about the holiday foods you enjoy the most and which things you can easily skip. If there's a particular food item you always overeat, then pledge to yourself that you will only have one serving...just one! Either write that commitment down to yourself or maybe tell someone that you made that promise to yourself. Don't make them accountable for your behavior but sometimes just telling someone about your goal helps you to stay on-track.
4. SKIP THE APPETIZERS: Again, if you are trying to lose weight, then cutting back on calories is key. So why not skip the appetizers and instead plan to have those calories at your dinner. Consider skipping the appetizers this year. You won't regret it.
5. ONE PLATE RULE with ONE DESSERT. Read that one again and stick to it! Enjoy your favorite Thanksgiving Day meal food items on ONE plate and then be done. And remember, having that plate be a 9" plate can save you even more calories...up to 25%!

It's your overall behavior over a lifetime that builds a better you. Living a healthy life does not mean you have to go without and not enjoy what life has to offer. Make a plan, stick to it and remember, healthy choices build a better you!

Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours 🙂
